What Is A Stretch Ceiling?
A question we get asked all the time is what exactly is a stretched ceiling? A stretched ceiling is a brief term that is an easy way to refresh your space and hide all of your imperfections in the ceiling. They work by using a certain film which allows the ceiling to become stretched across so that it fits into place.
The Steps To Consider Before Installing A Stretch Ceiling
1. Are They The Best Option For You?
The main advantage and benefits of having a stretch ceiling are that they are fast installation processes and are very easy to maintain. Stretched ceilings come in a range of finishes that can suit your needs. They are very reliable and durable as you don’t have to worry about painting them or making sure it looks neat.
2. Choose Your Material
So now you’ve made the decision to have a stretched ceiling, now the next step is to choose what fabric, and colour you want. Do you want a matte finish? satin or gloss? shaped Or translucent. Or is it that you would like us to print off your favourite artist or the company logo? Check out our gallery for inspiration.
3. Choose Your Supplier
Now that you’ve chosen your design we will need to find a supplier. Stretcharama will guarantee you the best price that suits your needs. But we will do our best to advise you to get a variety of quotes from a range of suppliers to ensure you get the best service.
4. Prepare The Room For The Installation Process
A normal ceiling process would consist of plastering it, which is a similar process. The room doesn’t need to be cleared completely however we will need a bit of space, other than that we can start the process immediately.
5. Attach The Aluminum Track Onto The Ceiling
Your stretched ceiling is attached to the room via an aluminium track which will be fitted into all four walls. If the ceiling is to cover a large space then the tracks will have to be fitted at an interval across the ceiling to join all of the panels of fabric.
6. Set The System And Lighting Fixtures
We then attach platforms for lighting and systems such as smoke alarms to the original ceiling. Then we can adjust the height of the platform so it’s easy to pull relevant fixtures for the lights and ceiling to fit into the perfect place.
7. Heat The Room
In order for the ceiling to be stretched so that the fabric can fit into place, we have to use heat to increase the elasticity in the ceiling. We use portable gas heaters to do this.
8. Attach The Ceiling
Once we have reached the maximum elasticity level, the ceiling is then fitted into the aluminium rack but we make sure that the corners go in first.
9. Pull Through Fixtures And All The Fittings
The rings are therefore glued to the canvas and then we cut them into small holes so that we can fit the lights and alarms into the ceiling. Fixtures are all connected to cables and pulled through the holes and then the springs to the fixture platforms above the canvas are engaged. Therefore we move on to the last stage which is the final cleaning.
10. Final Cleaning Process
This is the last step to make sure that everything is perfect and we can do the last-minute clean-up to make sure there aren’t any handprints or marks on the ceiling.
